Daisy’s Derm Approved Smoothie

DAISY’S DERM APPROVED SMOOTHIE

In honor of #HeathySkinMonth we wanted to share a smoothie recipe chock full of our favorite foods for the skin. This recipe is a work of art by our receptionist Daisy who also happens to have a degree in nutrition and a passion for healthy living.

Daisy’s Derm Approved Smoothie

1.  handful of blueberry cherry mix (frozen OR fresh then frozen)

2.  handful of spinach

3. 1 tbsp of coconut oil

4. 2 tbsp of shredded coconut

5. 1/4 slice of lemon, squeezed (just the juice)

6. 1 serving of vanilla protein powder (something clean and organic, be mindful of what protein you are purchasing. Some proteins contain unnecessary fillers that will destroy your skin.)

7.  1 tbsp of flaxseed

8. 1/2 tsp of ashwagandha

9. 1 tsp of tocos

10. 1 cup of alternative milk (nut, oat, coconut – Daisy prefers cashew nut milk)

11.  BLEND. ENJOY.

What makes this tasty treat good for the skin?

blueberry cherry mix

This mix is low in sugar and super high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are great at slowing down the signs of aging and can even protect us against some cancers.

spinach

Spinach is filled with vitamins and nutrients that are great for our hair and skin. Additionally, spinach is a great source of fiber, which aids in digestion. We want to properly digest our food. If our digestive system is not functioning at its peak the remaining broken down/mostly digested food will linger and can wreak havoc on our skin. Spinach contains chlorophyll, which is a great detoxifier and helps move toxins out of the body.

coconut

Coconut is a healthy fat that has antimicrobial anti-inflammatory benefits, and it also helps our skin to retain moisture.

lemon

Lemons contain vitamin c, which is great for our immune systems and a healthy skin allstar.

flaxseed

Flaxseed is loaded with fiber, plus it in decreases inflammation in the body, which can damage and irritate our skin.

The adaptogens in steps 8 + 9 are totally optional. Adaptogens help your body naturally ADAPT.
ashwagandha, helps with stress and anxiety. A stressed and anxious body spikes our cortisol levels, which causes acne and breakouts.

tocos, promote healthy skin and connective tissue. Tocos also has a creamy taste, which will make any smoothie creamier and less tart.

Lastly, Daisy prefers non-dairy milk alternatives. Dairy can quite commonly cause inflammation in the body, which we know can trigger surface level skin issues like eczema, psoriasis and acne.
