Dr. Mraz's Skincare Routine AM + PM

Last month we shared Dr. Klein’s morning and evening skincare routine, and now it’s Dr. Mraz’s turn! Below are the products she uses to start and end each day – of importance is the order she’s using everything – order of application impacts the efficacy of what you’re applying.

AM: The goal here is to start the day with a clean slate and then layer on the lines of defense.

1. Alastin Gentle Cleanser Gentle– this is a great cleanser to gently clean the skin without stripping any moisture. Its unique blend of moisturizers and vitamins clean, soothe and soften the skin without upsetting skin's delicate moisture balance. I alternate between this and the PCA Pigment Bar - a cleansing bar formulated to provide an even skin tone on the face and body to calm skin and promotes an even skin tone – it’s great at addressing areas of hyperpigmentation.

2. BioDerm PURE Antioxidant Serum – This is my and Dr. Klein’s skincare line. We worked hard to curate this high potency blend of super antioxidants – Vitamin C, Ferulic Acid, Phloretin, and Peptides – to provide broad spectrum protection from environmental toxins. It’s important to apply this to clean skin so it can be absorbed.

3. Skinceuticals Blemish and Age Defense– Yes, I get pimples! So I love this oil-free face serum that reduces the formation of adult acne, and improves visible signs of aging.

4. Alastin Restorative Skin Complex - Helps support the skin’s natural ability to produce new, healthy elastin and collagen. A little goes a long way, I use a pump for my entire face – about the size of an almond.

5. Alastin Restorative Eye Treatment - Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eye. Tip: apply with your ring finger, this will prevent you from tapping or tugging too hard on the delicate skin around your eye.

6. Alastin Hydratint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 36 – Physical, broad-spectrum sunscreen that provides daily protection from damaging UVA/UVB rays, with a universal tint compatible for all skin types.

7. ISDIN Fotoprotector Mineral Brush Facial Powder– I dust this overtop of the Alastin Hydratint to add some mineral sun protection and keep shine at bay.

8. Restorsea PRO Lip Magic- As we age, there is an extra layer of skin that forms over the lip and creates the illusion that the lip line is fading or thinning. Active ingredient Aquabeautine XL® (INCI: Hydrolyzed Roe), in PRO Restorsea LipMagic™ digests this layer of skin, gently and without irritation.

9. If I’m showing some leg, I love to blend the ISDIN Pigment Drops with my body lotion (I love this one by ISDIN). They give an adjustable amount of coverage depending on how heavily they are diluted by the lotion. You can use these on your face too!

Note: If Dr. Mraz was using a chemical sunscreen, she would have applied that as Step 2 in her routine. Chemical sunscreens need to be absorbed by the skin where they absorb UV rays, convert the rays into heat, and release them from the body. The active ingredients in chemical sunscreens include avobenzone, octinoxate and oxybenzone (note: oxybenzone should not be used during pregnancy). On the flip side, physical sunscreens (or mineral sunscreens) sit on top of the skin and create a physical barrier that reflects the sun’s rays. The minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are the main active ingredients in physical sunscreens. If you're using a physical sunscreen it needs to be the last thing you apply in your skincare routine for it to work.

PM: The goal here is to clean the skin of the environmental toxins it has encountered during the day and nourish it for repair. Our skin follows a circadian rhythm just like the rest of our bodies, and it does its best repair work while we’re sleeping.

1. ISDIN Micellar Solution– Gently removes impurities and make-up, including waterproof, without altering the skin's natural barrier. I love how this leaves my skin feeling clean, toned and hydrated, ready for all the goodies I layer on next! Micellar solution can be used to remove makeup from your face, eyes and lips and doesn't need to be rinsed off. It is hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin.

2. BioDerm PURE Antioxidant Serum – This is my and Dr. Klein’s skincare line. 6. SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore– I love this moisturizer for winter months in particular, it is made of essential lipids alongside antioxidants, vitamins and other nutrients to fight free-radical damage.
