Dermatopathology
Our Greenwich office is home to a full dermatopathology lab, allowing Modern Dermatology to process skin biopsies in-house and provide patients with a more seamless approach to diagnosis and care. Specimens covered by insurance for patients in Westport & Greenwich can be processed here.
Biopsy specimens are prepared within our Greenwich laboratory and interpreted by Dr. Miller, a dermatopathologist — a physician with specialized training in diagnosing diseases of the skin by examining tissue under a microscope.
What does this mean for our patients?
A more streamlined process: Keeping biopsy processing and interpretation within Modern Dermatology reduces outside handoffs and helps create a more coordinated experience from biopsy through diagnosis.
Specialized expertise: Dermatopathologists focus specifically on the microscopic diagnosis of skin conditions, including skin cancers, inflammatory disorders, infections, and other dermatologic diseases.
Closer collaboration: Our dermatologists can communicate directly with the physician interpreting the biopsy, providing valuable clinical context and allowing for discussion of findings when needed.
Continuity of care: From your initial skin exam and biopsy to pathology review and follow-up, your care remains closely connected within the Modern Dermatology team.
Efficient communication of results: An integrated process can help our clinical team receive, review, and communicate pathology findings efficiently so appropriate next steps can be determined.
